I do have Rheumatoid. I’m just trying to figure out why I have so much chest pains.. I know that there can be build up around the lung and heart and all, I just wanted to know if it was normal or I need to get this checked..
So, I’m fourteen years old. I’ve been dealing with really severe pains for about three years, but it’s pretty much been there my whole life. Now I deal with really severe joint pain, and really deep muscle pains. I’m starting to have weird chest pains that are around my breastbone, but pretty much my whole upper chest. And sometimes when I have these pains in my chest, there are also pains in my lower abdomen. Does anyone know why I’m having all sorts of odd pains in places that aren’t my joints?

I was diagnosed with RA in my early 20’s. After I had my son (23), I developed psoriasis and that began my trip into the hell of trusting your doctors (which I don’t- but I kind of do). I was and am continuously told that I will be in a wheelchair before I am 50.

Most importantly I am now 35 and I have little or no pain due to the Arthritis. I do suffer from excessive swelling in my ankles. (HUGE- I am talking Cankles!) Steriods bring the swelling down, but that is obviously not a good solution.

The problem is that no matter what I do- I can’t control it, I cannot sit, stand, or walk too much?!#$% There is no definition as to what too much- so that makes it really hard. I am not overweight by any normal standards (maybe a little  extra)- my first Rhematologist wanted me at 130- I am 5’7” and that has not been feasible since Jr. High.

My family does have a history of psoriasis, but only myself and 1 cousin have the RA. Her problem is more psoriasis, and she has good results on the meds. The doctors have prescribed me Methotrexate, Enbrel, Nabumetone and ointments. They made me sick, or in some cases (Enbrel) violently ill.

Nothing really works. The next choice is Remicade. I don’t want to go there!!! I can’t see sitting in an office for 3 hours while they infuse me with poison to suppress my immune system is going to be any better than the last treatment. A couple of friends recommended a Gluten free diet. I don’t want to give up my protien, however between the options….

Her GP did the rest for RA factor and it was positive. She also did the blood tests for Lupus and others that can give a false positive for RA. Those were all negative.

I think I might have rheumatoid arthritis. Since I was young I would wake up 2 to 3 times a month with shooting pains usually in my ankles. My grandmother thought it was a cry for attention so just ignored me. I ended up keeping it to myself for years. Normally extreme heat, a rub down and bengay was my way of getting the pain to go down. I research rheumatoid arthritis and have read it causes deformity if not treated. Is this true? I never done anything about the pains because as I was growing up no one ever believed me. Should I be worried?
Now my son started to complain about pains in his feet. =/

My father has RA, and so does my dad’s sister. My sister has osteoarthritis.

I am 23 years old. For the last few years, I have been having what I thought was "normal" pain. I hurt so bad after work (I groomed dogs… can no longer do this physical work due to pain), that I would have to just lay in bed for the rest of the day with hot towels wrapped around my wrists and legs. I would have "flare ups" every month or so, and I would feel very "feverish" and "growing-pain-like" aches in my wrists, ankles, and calves.

This has increased a TON over the last year. I had my daughter in October 2009 (3 months ago), and it has just completely increased in frequency. I have pain ALL DAY EVERY DAY, ranging from dull to extreme. I feel every single bone in my hand is aching, my wrists crack constantly, my ankles pop, and I just want my feet constantly squeezed. My knees have been feeling like my knee caps are going to just explode off. My elbows having been starting to hurt.

I finally went in to the doc, had xrays and blood work done.
I just got a call back today, and was just a little confused. I hate when they give you info over the phone because I don’t know what the heck they are talking about and they use these outrageous terms. Xrays came back NORMAL. The blood results that show white blood cell count and inflammation in the body came back NORMAL. But she said the test that determines RA was at a 21 for me… she said the cut-off is a 20 for whether they refer you to a Rheumatologist or not. Then, she also said some other mumbo-jumbo was high and I had no idea what she was talking about, but that it was in relation to RA. Then, my thyroid is low which probably has nothing to do with RA at all…

can someone explain what these blood results really mean? Do my symptoms make any sense? i was surprised the xrays came back normal.

My mom has Rheumatoid Arthiritis for quite sometime , for more than 12 years. She got it when she was in her late 20’s.
Now all of sudden she has this huge pain and swelling near her ankles and hands. never used to have this before.
She used to have pain but it wasn’t as painful as it is now. The pain would usually go away during the day. And come back during the evening.
The medication she is taking is not having much effect on her as much as it did before.
And she sometimes get this numbing pain on her legs.

Is this a part of Rhematoid Arthritis progressing?
Or is it something else?
Should she go to the hospital?

All help is appreciated.

I have had FMLA and used it but now have been put on disability by my Dr. for two months and have been told by my employer that I am out of FMLA. I do have short term disability and long term disability through my employer and have filed a STD claim. My question is three fold – Can they fire me for not being there without FMLA even though I have a documented disability? Should I wait for them to fire me or resign in order to receive unemployment benefits? Will I lose my disability insurance if I quit or am fired? I’m not understanding why I have long term disability then because what if you do have a long term disability that runs past the 12 weeks per year of FMLA and you have already filed a claim? Are they bound to pay that claim or can they cut you off because you no longer work there. I’ve already checked into COBRA and have been told that only the health insurance is eligible for that and not the disability insurance. Real scared here and need advice.

Hello, for the past 6 months or more, I have been developing weird symptoms. As i type right now, my elbow is sore.

it all started when my right hand was aching. In my eyes, it looked different, my middle finger and ring finger were closing together. I sometimes wake up in the morning and my whole hand will be stuck in a weird position. So, i went to a orthopedic who said it is the ulnar nerve and requires surgery. I didnt go for that, and thought it isnt that bad. Then, i started developing the same thing in my left hand! I was so confused. How could it be my ulnar nerve in both hands? Now, my elbows hurt when crossed and I have to completely straighten them so they feel better. My elbow is still aching i probably slept on it weird. It is a tired/aching/cramp feeling. Also, my ankle joint swelled up for about 5 days (looked like a golf ball) and then went back to normal. I also get bad back/spine pain and have a hump or lump on the base of my neck

I also have many neurological symptoms
headaches, seizure, fainting, diagnosed with psuedotumor cerebri but i think its wrong based on so many other symptoms, numb hands and feet, when crossed, pressure in cheek bone, and more.

I feel like I am getting closer to figuring out what is wrong.
Could it be RA, i hope not but i am ready to figure out what is going on.
any suggestions or ideas

im only 18 years old. I have been dealing with the neurological since 15 and the other problems since i turned 18 about 6 months ago

So Dr thinks it maybe just a symptom of my RA. Has anyone else had or even heard of this? And what is it that is only on the bottoms of feet and palms of hands!? What can I do? and Dr has guessed everything from caused by meds to psoriasis to rash to eczema and now he thinks its one of my RA symptoms. I need help PLEASE!
Thank you for your replys. I do see one of the best Rheomatology Dr. in Dallas TX. and I do have RA I have the markers in my blood. I had been on Humira for 4 yrs. with no problems. this rash (or what ever it is) has been with me for 5 months. I will ck into the sugar because I do eat a lot of that. but any idea why just bottom of feet and hands?
