I have Rheumatoid arthritis and im 26 years old im not sure how bad your mother suffers from it, but it is an autoimmune disease which means your own immune system is attacking itself and it should only attack the bad things not the good things. this is a disease that can be managed the only medication i am on are magnesium and fish oil supplements i have my bad days when my arms and legs hurt so bad its terrible but no one in my family has had it so for me im not sure how i got it. as long as you keep healthy and fit as weight can be a problem because the heavier you are the more pressure your putting on your joints. make sure you stick to a healthy diet and excersicce to keep joints moving. you can get a blood test to find out if you do have it from your dr. best of luck!

There is no way to tell for certain, but if it runs in the family than you would be at an increased risk of developing arthritis.
One of the most important things you can do is make sure you are eating right and getting enough nutrients, as well as preforming regular exercise. However, keep in mind that low impact exercises, such as walking or water aerobics, are usually safer and less likely to result in damage later in life. To put that in perspective, arthritis is often much more common in soccer players, due to the type of movements and stress that is put on the knees and hips.
