Taking Arava for my rheumatoid arthritis?

Can I take ibuprofen to help with the pain? My doctor said yes but I read that nsaids can interact with my Arava. I have been diagnosed with arthritis for less than one month. How long does it take for it to work? I read on the pharmacist note that it may take 4 weeks. I read somewhere else that it may take longer.
