First of all where are you located…..in which country and state. My son also suffers from a similar disease (same family of diseases) called Ankylosing Spondylitis with peripheral Arthritis. He has this condition for the past 4 years. RA is a crippling disease and the sooner it is treated the better for her. Exercise is extremely important and better still swimming. There is a wonderful doctor in New Delhi, India who has put my son back on his feet. If you feel you can get to New Delhi, get in touch with me and I will furnish you the full details. He is an amazing doctor….from almost immobile my son was walking in 2 days…..

I won’t go into the nitty gritty or the history..The doctor examined him for about 2 and a half hours and fed his entire history and symptoms in his computer. He was then admitted in hospital and all the inflamed joints were injected directly (this is not painful as it is injected between the bones and not into them) with some medication, his legs were put in splints and hands in a sling so he could not move them. The next morning the splints were removed and the slings removed. After flexing his arms and legs my son got out of bed and stood on the floor leaning against the bed (all which he could not do the day before). In about 2 hours time he was walking and the same evening he walked in the garden outside. He was taking oral medication and some injections too. The next day he returned home and is today attending school and enjoying his life without pain. Yes the truth of the matter is that he is fine but needs to be on medication all his life. He has his good days and bad ones, bad not that he cannot walk, but stiffness in the joints. He needs to exercise daily and move all his joints. A healthy diet (no junk food), exercise like walking, swimming and physiotherapy and rest is all he has to do apart from taking his medication every day apart from one injection he needs once a week in the skin of his stomach.
Since you cannot travel to Delhi maybe you can talk to him on the phone and take his advise. Maybe there is some doctor in your country that follows a similar line of treatment. I will give you the senior consultant’s name and number as the Head will not have time to speak with you as he is extremely busy. His appointments are fixed 1 to 1 and a half months in advance. Dr. Garg. Spinal Injuries Hospital Mobile number 0091-11-9810650306 Dr. Kapoor Mobile number 0091-11-9811373602.
Wish it works for your girlfriend and I sincerely mean that. I have seen this disease from close and I know the pain and suffering associated with it. The magic will work if you keep praying to God and never losing faith..

    Concentrate on the sentence below

"The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you"

Anything else get in touch……..God Bless.

Try cherry bark, goji berry juice, and light yoga.

Research cherry bark to see if it is right before taking it. It can make drowsy so only take it in the evening at home.

Start taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM combined…you can find it at GNC, Target, Walmart etc.

It’s not a cure but it will help minimize the pain and also lubricate the bones and joints. It’s all natural. I used to work for GNC and i know alot of elderly folks would come in and often buy it…It is pricey though.

    Hope she gets better

Get her to eat unprocessed foods – no junk food, cakes, biscuits, crackers or chips. Avoid wheat products so try biscuits made with other grains – rice, oats, sunflower seeds, dates, almonds.

Avoid fatty fried foods as they promote inflammation.

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean meat, oily fish, find another calcium source other than cows milk – soy milk.

Omega 3 Oils in olive oil, oily fish, sunflower seeds, linseeds , reduce inflammation. Magnesium rich foods (almonds, dates) relax muscles thereby easing pressure placed on joints.

I have polyarticular rheumatoid arthritis and i had it at her age as well. i try to cut down on high-carb and wheat products. things like crackers, breads, and chips put toxins in the joints that build up and cause more pain. Also things with high fat take away from the bones and cause more severe inflammation. Things like cheese fries can make me immobile the following day. keeping hydrated helps move the toxins out of the joints as well. And even though it hurts unbelievably, remaining active will help a lot
I wish her the best of luck!

I don’t know if this will work in you friends case, being so young, and I am not a medical doctor, but my dad had arthritic pain in his leg and I had heard of a product called glucosomine. He started using it and was very impressed with the results, and he is usually very sceptical. I would suggest that your friend consults her doctor with regards to trying this. I don’t think it is a cure but it might help with the pain.

i have it too. i’m 18 and i was diagnosed when i was 15. i had to quit rowing (which was my life), and i missed a lot of school on days when it was too bad in my knees and hips to walk around. i kept my schoolbooks in the classrooms so i didnt have to carry them around, and i was allowed to take the elevator to my classes. i’ve taken lots of medications, some of which made my stomach so sick that i stopped taking them. i’ve done physical therapy (useless) and everything imaginable to make it better. i know it was really difficult for my mom to watch me hurting like i was. it’s been better the past year or so, but every couple of months it flares up and the joint damage in my hands makes it difficult to carry things or unscrew lids.

somehthing i tried which i think may have helped was changing my diet. i’ve always been a vegetarian and the research ive done has shown me that thats the best thing to do. its also possible that dairy or gluten can make it worse. i strongly suggest being on a completely vegetarian diet and seeing if things improve over several months.

i sympathize with your situation, but as far as solutions, i can’t tell you any more than your doctor can.

I feel for her im 23 with Seronegative Rheumatoid Arthritis that causes Chronically Severe pain, im currently walking using a crutch and I take vey strong pain killers.

I would suggest she gets a Vitamin D and Calcium supplement of her Dr called Ad-Cal this will help strengthen bones and teeth also. Get Folic Acid and Glucomasine pills these are great for the joints. When in pain to prevent it being as bad you need to get her to walk take a nice walk everyday otherwise you have muscle wasting. You need to balance between exercise and rest. Swimming is the best exercise ever for us because the water takes all pressure of our joints.

Fish is a good diet with alot of fresh fruits, fish oils are great for joints and brain. What medication is she on? She might want to try Naproxen this is a very strong Non-Steroid Anti Inflammatory, what pain killers is she using? The best Non prescriptive one for people with Arthritis is Anadin (if she is ok with Aspirin based drugs).

Even though its hard stress must be kept minimal because stress can make our R.A progress, it has with mine to my elbows shoulders and back in the last week alone. I have agressive R.A.

R.A is the worst type of Arthritis in my opinion because it is Degenrative it is Systemic meaning it dont just affect the joints it also affects the muscles, organs, skin and blood vessles (rearest form that is). Does your girlfriend see a Rheumatologist? She should be using DMARDS or Anti-TNF’s, DMARDS are Disease Modifying Anti Rheumatic Drugs, I use Sulfasalazine 500mg 4 times daily along with a bucket load of other drugs including 2 different opiates (pain killers) at the same time. But im still in agony.

So exercise try get her to go swimming often and eat plenty of fruits.

No matter what you try, there is going to be pain with RA. However, I have got relief from using Voltaren, Neurontin, Soma, Calcium with Vitamin D and fish oil capsules and once each week I take 40,000 mg of Vitamin D.
I find it very helpful to go with friends for lunch and forget my troubles for awhile. A good laugh is great pain relief too. It’s important to not over-tire yourself so activity must be interspersed with rest.
I once taught a third grader with RA. I felt so sorry for her. She OUTGREW her RA and became a teacher, wife and mother and is doing well. So there is some hope!
